Please keep in mind that your references need to be real and they will indeed be contacted by the SPCA executive. If a reference might be out of town or working, please ask them for permission to call them at work or arrange a time when they can give their reference for you. This takes a lot of time to arrange. If you are very interested in an animal and you are serious, please, have your references available…
You should also check beforehand if you are in a rental home or apartment if the landlord is in agreeance with allowing pets to cohabit with you. A lot of times you might have great references and be a wonderful responsible pet owner but not be allowed to have a pet in your rented home.
