The Burin Peninsula SPCA was formed in September 1996 by a group of individuals who were interested in making improvements in animal welfare on the Peninsula.
Our shelter was opened in May of 1999 after three years of continued fundraising and government funding.
Our mission is to make improvements in animal welfare through education, awareness, and responsibility, thus providing a better and longer life for all animals.
We are funded primarily through the fundraising efforts of volunteers and through donations from the general public, service groups, and municipalities. Income is also provided through adoption and shelter fees and a Provincial Government Grant.
