Animal Care Attendant
We are currently seeking a parttime employee for 25hrs per week.

Salary – minimum wage.
Will include split shifts and some evenings.
Shelter hours are from 9am-3:30pm daily and 7:30-9:30pm nightly.
Must use own vehicle.
The Animal Care Attendant is responsible for the overall care of shelter animals under the direction of the BPSPCA board and senior staff. Responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
Following shelter policies and procedures.
Observing animals’ activity and appearance for general physical condition and for obvious signs of illness, disease, and discontent.
Administering medication as prescribed.
Recording animals’ medical history.
Feeding, watering, and exercising animals as required.
Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting areas of the shelter as required.
Laundry and dish washing.
Cleaning and maintenance of outdoor areas.
Handling animals as required.
Bathing and grooming animals.
Preforming cleaning and maintenance of all shelter equipment and tools as required.
Light office work.
Keeping of daily log entries.
Communicating effectively with the public via phone or in person.
Transporting animals to veterinary appointments.
Admitting and releasing animals.
Participate in fund raising endeavours.
Stocking shelves and maintaining clean organized working stations.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Work requirements may include:
Lifting and carrying heavy objects 20lbs -40lbs
Bending, walking or standing for long periods.
Handling and walking larger, stronger or more active animals.
Exposure to unpleasant odors and noise.
Exposure to bites, scratches and animal waste.
Exposure to contagious disease or parasites that may be transferable to you or your pets.
Experiencing great joy when an animal finds its new home.
Qualifications
High school diploma
First Aid
WHMIS*(Available online at no cost)
Criminal Record Check
Previous experience in animal care and behavior would be an asset.
